Notes from a Political Scientist provide reflections on current events by Ann Marie Wainscott, the Karen and Adeed Dawisha Associate Professor of Political Science at Miami University. Her research examines the intersection of religion and politics (and authoritarianism specifically). As the United States has abandoned many principles of democratic governance in recent months, she has found her training as a scholar useful to understanding current events. Her posts try to capture how current events appear to someone with training as a professional political scientist. Her interest in religion and politics often also shows through, and she occasionally writes Sunday Soul posts with support for one's nervous system through an otherwise chaotic time.
